Changing how your team works can be a challenge for any company, no matter how established. From restructuring your staff to changing your company’s mission or branding, there is often a lot of thought, strategy, and time that goes into changing your processes and procedures. However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and impacted businesses across the world, most had to change how they did business… fast.

As leaders in the Business Process Outsourcing and Accounts Receivable Management field for two decades, F.H. Cann and Associates has learned how to think on their feet, create positive internal change, and roll with the punches.

Since the pandemic hit, F.H. Cann and Associates hired more employees to support an effort on behalf of a state unemployment hotline. The company then has transitioned their entire team to work from home while maintaining the quality that their clients expect.

It’s with this experience that F.H. Cann and Associates is sharing their tips on how to lead, coach, and train your remote team.

Schedule

The chances are that you and your team have a routine while working together in an office. From having a clearly defined workday, attending weekly in-person meetings, or checking in with clients regularly, there’s something to be said for a schedule’s ability to elicit productivity.

Most people are more productive when they are provided the foundation to get their work done efficiently. Transitioning to remote work can be difficult due to the dismantling of that structure and the culture of routine that permeates an office building.

That’s why the first step that F.H. Cann and Associates took when transitioning their entire team to remote work at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic was to establish the support behind a work-from-home routine and ensure that their team felt that they were being supported to lead a successful work day, just as they would behind their desks.

Check In

While we might not think of work as “social hour”, there is a level of extroversion that many of us rely on to be successful at our jobs. Whether it’s chatting with coworkers or communicating information with our bosses, it can become more difficult to maintain an equal level of communication while away from the office that you would steps from your colleagues’ desks.

That’s why F.H. Cann and Associates scheduled normal check ins with their team and the individuals on their teams to keep a steady stream of communication. Likewise, F.H. Cann and Associates established an easy online network where employees can easily drop in and chat with one another without feeling like they had to send a formal email or phone call for something they might deem too trivial.

Grow

The wonderful thing about change is that it often forces growth. The Covid-19 pandemic shouldn’t change your company’s dedication to growth. F.H. Cann and Associates knows that continuing the mission to grow their goals couldn’t stop due to the pandemic.

In fact, it meant that taking these opportunities for growth were more important than ever. By ensuring that team morale was up and opportunities to grow were still present, F.H Cann and Associates was able to continue working and understanding opportunities where this new way of work could benefit rather than hinder all opportunities that present themselves.
