Most of these establishments are located in eastern Pennsylvania because that is where the first settlers arrived. These restaurants date back to the 1700s and 1800s, and most of these started as guest inns that also served food.

Duffy’s Tavern
Located close to Penn State’s main campus, this historic inn was established in 1819 by Colonel James Johnston and his wife, Hannah. More than 200 years have gone by since it first opened for business, and during this time, the restaurant has changed many owners.
In 1934, this restaurant was severely damaged by fire but was later restored to perfection by Roanna Hill Winsor, and reopened in 1934. Since then, it has continued to faithfully serve Boalsburg’s residents and visitors. Today, the restaurant offers fine dining, with a gastropub-inspired menu and a laid back ambiance.
Ralph’s Italian Restaurant
This is America’s oldest restaurant. It has been serving food since 1900 when it was first opened, and it is located near the Italian Market in South Philadelphia. The restaurant has changed locations many times but continues to be run by the same owners – the Dispignio/Rubino family. It is now managed by the family’s fourth and fifth generation, reported the Courier Newsroom publication.
They specialize in classic Italian-American cuisine. They are famous for serving the best gravy, and their gravy is so famous they allow their customers to take it home in jars. King George II Inn
Located in Bristol, Bucks County, this inn was founded in 1681, and it is the oldest operating inn in America. George Washington is said to have stayed here. The inn is named after King George II, who ruled over Great Britain and Ireland from 1727 to 1760.
It started as a public house, over 340 years ago, and now it only operates as a restaurant. Guests are treated to a breathtaking view of the Delaware River as they enjoy their meals. The restaurant offers a very American menu, including appetizers such as soups, salads, chicken wings, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Entrees include steak, seafood, pork, burgers, sandwiches, and some gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Logan Inn
The Logan Inn is located in New Hope, Bucks County, along the Delaware River. It was founded by John Well in 1727. According to the Courier Newsroom publication, the inn has historical significance because it was used as a field hospital during the Revolutionary War, and Aaron Burr and George Washington also stayed here. It is said that the inn is haunted by several ghosts of days past.
Today, the inn has undergone extensive renovation and is now a luxury hotel. Ferry + Main is an on-site restaurant, which has an upscale menu, and guests can see their food prepared in the open kitchen. They are also famous for their weekend brunch.
